SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth | Community Health

SDG 8 aims to achieve full and productive employment, and decent work for all women and men, by promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth.

Overview

SDG 8 aims to achieve full and productive employment, and decent work for all women and men, by promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth. This goal is crucial for reducing poverty, inequality, and social injustice. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), approximately 190 million people were unemployed in 2022, with the global unemployment rate standing at 5.2%. The ILO also reports that 2 billion people, or 61% of the global workforce, are in informal employment, lacking access to social protection, rights, and representation. To achieve SDG 8, governments, businesses, and civil society must work together to create decent jobs, promote entrepreneurship, and protect workers' rights. By 2030, the goal is to achieve an average annual GDP growth rate of at least 7% per annum in the least developed countries, and to reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education, or training to below 15%.
