Overview
The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is a coalition of organizations and individuals working to ensure that all people have access to quality education. Founded in 1999, the GCE has been a key player in promoting the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all by 2030. With a strong presence in over 100 countries, the GCE has been instrumental in raising awareness about the importance of education and advocating for policy changes to support education for all. The campaign has also been involved in various initiatives, such as the 'Big Push' campaign, which aims to increase funding for education in developing countries. According to UNESCO, 258 million children and youth still do not attend school, and 617 million children and adolescents are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. The GCE continues to push for increased funding and support for education, with a focus on the most marginalized and vulnerable populations.
